Pastoral Support Department
In Stepping Stones we aim to make you as happy as you can be at school. We are a warm, caring and empathetic team who are here to support you in all aspects of school life. Primarily, we provide a link between school and parents in a friendly environment. Perhaps most importantly, we aim to provide emotional support to anyone that is struggling and help them to have a positive experience of school. This could take the form of a ‘listening ear’ whenever needed or regular 1:1 work with a member of the team. We also run group sessions which in the past have focused on self-esteem, anger management and friendship issues amongst others.
Supporting good attendance is an important part of our work and we run attendance workshops to educate students about the importance of attending school regularly. We provide a link between home and school to keep communication open and help with issues that might arise which may affect attendance.
We work closely with teaching staff, offering catch-up sessions when needed and supporting re-integration into lessons if necessary. Targeted in-class support is sometimes necessary, enabling the student to feel more confident and positive in lessons. Sometimes we may offer a short-term placement here to enable reflection about behaviour choices and strategies to enable a more positive experience in school.
