ECT Provision

“Being an ECT at Larkmead involves a whole host of support - both behind the scenes and when you need in most, in the classroom.  Teaching at Larkmead in general means “family” – this school is a community and it feels exactly like its tagline advertises.” - Current ECT

At Larkmead School we are proud of the support we give our Early Career Teachers as they continue their training and embark on the next stage of their teaching career.

We recognise that you, alongside every member of our staff, are still learning and developing your craft.  To support this, for all staff starting at a new school and within the first two years of the profession, we ensure regular opportunities to meet with colleagues, engage in further CPD, be observed, receive praise and constructive feedback, observe and learn from others and receive guidance and support from trained mentors.  We greatly value the benefits that come from working with teachers embarking on their Initial Teacher Training and from employing enthusiastic ECTs, motivated by the ambitions set out in the Larkmead Promise, and do all we can to ensure that the support and development opportunities you receive here are second to none.

We work closely with the Oxfordshire Teaching Schools Alliance (OTSA) who oversee our ECT Induction process, making certain it is fair and consistent and you, as an ECT, are easily able to demonstrate you are meeting the Teachers’ Standards at the end of your induction period.

As an Early Career Teacher at Larkmead School, you will receive…

  • At least 10% Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) time
  • A further 10% of your timetable allocated as non-teaching (5% in year 2)
  • A trained mentor in your faculty area with an hour a week protected for mentor sessions (an hour a fortnight in year 2)
  • Regular Early Career Framework CPD sessions planned and delivered by UCL IOE, both face-to face and online
  • Regular, supportive learning walks within your faculty
  • Regular meetings with your Induction Tutor, at least once a term
  • At least three formal observations each year with detailed, constructive feedback
  • Further opportunities to be observed and to observe colleagues, with cover if required
  • Weekly in-school training sessions to ensure familiarisation with all school processes
  • Out of faculty care and support
  • Regular staff social events and opportunities
